In the 19th and early 20th century Liverpool was the major European port of embarkation for Scandinavians seeking a new future in America and elsewhere. The scale of the Scandinavian emigration particularly from the 1850’s to the outbreak of the First World War was unprecedented. The Gustaf Adolfs Kyrka was initially built in 1883 - 1884 in order to respond to the needs of both seafarers and emigrants however over the intervening period to the present day the Church has adapted to modern needs for both resident Scandinavians and the local community.

LiNC is a centre of excellence which is situated at the Gustaf Adolf Kyrka for the support, promotion and development of all that is Scandinavian. The community incorporates Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland and Denmark.

Our vision
+ To develop a network of contacts for the Scandinavian community in the North West of England.
+ To advance the Christian Religion amongst Scandinavian people living or visiting the Northern England and North Wales.
+ To secure adequate funding to refurbish the church building to a modern standard meeting current regulations for access and safety.

Our ongoing mission
+ To provide for the spiritual welfare of the Scandinavian community and to foster links which local churches and other local community groups including the local people of Liverpool and North West areas.
+ To maintain a high quality building as a focal point for the activities of the church and the LiNC charity.
